PROTECTION OF THE ORO MORAINE
The Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Act and Plan serves as a model for moraine protection. Using Ecosystem based land planning and focusing on protecting sensitive headwater areas, watersheds and groundwater features and functions, as well as wetlands, forests and farmlands. This system acknowledges the fragility of all these features and has been successful. The Oak Ridges Moraine legislation serves as a example how the Oro Moraine should be protected. The Oro Moraine should also be added to the Greenbelt.
In fact, in 2017/18 the Oro Moraine along with other areas in Simcoe County and the province was included in the GREENBELT EXPANSION PLAN under the previous provincial government (see map section). Scientists; from hydrogeologists to biologists, conservation authorities and more all have stated this is a area that needs to be protected. Science and people that understand the importance of this area all want to see it protected.
